If your business, community group or not-for-profit has been affected by severe weather and flooding in NSW, there are grants, payments and other assistance available.

Disaster relief loans

Your organisation or business may be eligible for special loans and subsidies if it was affected by floods. 

Check the list of Local Government Areas (LGAs)launch that are eligible. This support is administered by the NSW Rural Assistance Authority (RAA). 

Disaster relief loans for small business

Small businesses may be eligible for a low-interest loan up to $130,000 to help replace and repair damage caused to property.

Disaster relief loans for not-for-profits

Not-for-profit organisations affected by flooding or storm damage may apply for up to $25,000 in low-interest loans.

Disaster relief loans for sporting and recreation clubs

A low-interest loan of up to $10,000 is available to meet the costs of restoring essential club facilities, equipment or other assets that were damaged or destroyed.

Donated fodder transport subsidy

This scheme provides funding assistance to organisations that donate and transport fodder for livestock.

Storm and flood disaster recovery small business grant

If your small business or not-for-profit was affected by floods, you may be eligible for this grant. Applications are made through the Service NSW website. 

This grant is to assist organisations affected by: 

Up to $50,000 is available through this grant. The funds can go towards the costs of clean up and the reinstatement of operations. This might include:

  • safety inspections 

  • building repairs 

  • cleaning equipment

  • materials needed to resume trade

  • disposing of debris and spoiled stock.

$1,000 SafeWork small business rebate

The $1000 rebate is available to small businesses and not-for-profits with fewer than 50 full-time employees. Sole traders can also apply.   

The rebate helps organisations purchase items to help clean up or improve work health and safety. To apply, you must attend an eligible SafeWork NSW event. You may alternatively watch a webinar at a recovery centre.

Northern Rivers medium size business grant

If your medium-sized business or not-for-profit was affected by floods in February and March 2022, you may be eligible for this grant. Applications are made through the Service NSW website.

Up to $200,000 is available to help pay for the costs of clean up and restoring operations.

Your organisation must be located in one of these Local Government Areas (LGAs): 

  • Ballina 

  • Byron 

  • Clarence Valley 

  • Kyogle 

  • Lismore 

  • Richmond Valley 

  • Tweed Shire.

Hardwood Timber Haulage Subsidy

This program subsidises the costs of transporting hardwood timber from forests and plantations into processing facilities. 

Hardwood timber processing facilities that were affected by February and March storms and floods may apply. To be eligible, facilities must be located within the Mid and North Coast disaster-declared suburbs of AGRN 1012.

Community Local Infrastructure Recovery Package

This package provides funding to support small repairs and rebuilding of arts and culture, sports and Aboriginal-owned community infrastructure.  

Your organisation may be eligible if it was affected by the February and March storms and floods. Visit the list of eligible suburbs under AGRN 1012

Funding from this program can assist with: 

  • damage assessments  

  • planning  

  • repair and replacement.

Help with eligibility and applying for support

To receive funds of between $15,000 to $50,000, you will need to submit evidence of payment of the relevant costs at the time of application.

Receiving some grants or loans can make you ineligible for others. You may also not be eligible if your costs can be covered another way, such as by your insurance. So, it’s important to document your circumstances and get tailored advice about what’s best for your business.
